do you think the damper was damaged before or after it let go? its sfi correct?

After, and yes it's an ATI. The engine builder and a few others said that can happen when the crank stops suddenly and violently like it did.

455 with SRP pistons, N crank, Eagle rods, billet main caps, hyd. roller cam, Edelbrock heads, Performer intake, 1 3/4 headers, TH400, 4200 stall, 3.90 gear, 30x9 radial, 3450#, best of 10.58 @ 124. It had 750 runs (in 2 1/2 years) on it when it let go.
