OK, why is it that everyone seems to have a different idea of what is MINT, NOS, cherry, daily driver and just straight JUNK?? Went to look at some stainless trim. Was told it was in MINT condition. I assumed it was nice and shiney with little to no defects. Get there and he shows me the largest pile of corroded scaley grey heap of junk I had laid eyes on in a long while. So I asked him where the mint stuff was.... yeah.... that was it.
Here is how I see it, and I'm beginning to think I'm just out there.
NOS= NEW OLD STOCK- meaning NEW, in a package, never installed on a vehicle. Sometimes its in MINT condition as it looked from the factory, all shiney with that "new car" smell. Sometimes its beed stored for 37 years and has been crushed under 800 lbs of junk. NOS just means buyer beware.
MINT= Fresh (mmmm minty!), newish with high bling and awe factor. No dirt, dings or other blemishes. Concourse restoration worthey.
Restored= used junk part restored using cleaners, paint, or other type work done to it to appear NEW.
Very Good Condition= not concourse, but good for the local shows or something worthy to be used on a nicer low mileage vehicle. usually taken FROM a low mileage vehicle that may have been wrecked or some other ill fate
Good Condition (Daily Driver)- not broken, cracked, leaking or otherwise falling apart. Something that can be bolted up, is 100% useable, but has zero bling factor.
Restorable- hard to find item that requires an overhaul. Needs some love or elbow grease to make it right.
Fair condition- have to use it because I can't find a better one at the time I absolutely NEED one. Like a bald tire... it holds air, and will get me home, but needs immediate replacement. Just something to get by.
Anything below that; is trash IMHO.
John

Living in NC for 7 years, I can absolutely beleive that... Same with new tires. They are just new to that car... not new out of the store.
