I was out last night in my EXT with my wife getting a bite to eat at the local Taco Bell and on the way home. I had put my summer cruising wheels back on the EXT since the salt was off the road and having a good ole' time playing with the exhaust since the roads were fairly empty. Out of no where comes this red 95-ish Cobra. Shoots past me. My wife instantly looks over and says dont even think about it as she makes sure her seatbelt is fastened. I pull up behind him at the light and rev up my engine. I have done a couple mods to the EXT one of which is the Corsa exhaust (incredible rumble). Again my wife says "DON"T!" Do I listnen.....guys what do you think? It was nice out, sunroof open, windows down....of cours not.....This guy nails the gas and the Cobra freakin' launches off the line leaving huge patches of rubber in each of the first 3 gears and when he hit 4th he was so far gone there was no way I was catching up. I had the Caddy floored, wife had her eyes closed. I was with him till he hit 4th. Next light I was about to do it again and would you not know it, darn low fuel light kicks on. My wife looks over with a slight grin and said "What a darn shame, we need gas right about now. Wonder how that happened?" I looked at her and said "See if we had taken the Cutlass, I could have taken him." Her reply.."That car, I can already tell is going to be a bad, bad thing."

Next time that happens, let the other guy take a chance on killing somebody. My advice is limit your racing to the drag strip. _________________ Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room! |

The only reason I did this was there was no cars around us. I definitly understand your position and agree with it. I dont go out looking for races and actually have only done this a handful of times in the 14 years I have had my lisc. I usually just get on the car/truck on a on ramp or when no one is around. Really, I am a safe driver and would never have done this had other cars been around. _________________ 77 Monte Carlo 82K Swivel Buckets/Console

I still don't understand why you were messing with a Cobra in your Escalade. If you had something serious that would be one thing. You clearly didn't. _________________ The '66 blog:

Sure why not, I am close to 400HP with my Escalade with the few mods we have done). However, at that time I was only thinking the 400HP number not that the EXT weighed probably double what the Cobra weighed hee hee.
Maybe the guys shift light on his dash should have told me something
There is this older guy, retired from GM around my town that has a 69 GTX 440 and also a 2005 Z06 with NOS. He stops by my house every couple weeks to see how the car is comming. Each time he says we are going to have to race down at the track once I am done. I keep telling him no way, I am not giving him another notch on his dash. _________________ 77 Monte Carlo 82K Swivel Buckets/Console

See someone that knows what I am talking about. How can you resist hearing the exhaust of a cobra and know you have a 6.0 under the hood? Nail the gas and away you go. I had an Avalanche before the Escalade and what a huge difference in power the Escalade has. No comparison to the Avalanche. Its no screaming beast but for what it is, it really moves. Plus I had never raced anyone in it before and now know unless its a Suburban or similar size vehicle, I will just get buy on my looks _________________ 77 Monte Carlo 82K Swivel Buckets/Console

Surprised your wife didnt kill you.. I know one of my ex's would have killed me lol..
Reminds me of a story. We would always take the cutlass out for a cruise on nice summer nights, and occasionally I would get a guy wanted to race me. Man, all of those guys I could have smoked lol. On occasion I did race one, but I wouldnt hear the end of it from her
One day I let her drive (yes i let her drive my cutlass), and someone came up to her, and wanted to race. She got so angry at the guy she floored it and we left him in the dust. About 15 mins later we pull into an ice cream place and she says to me, man that was great! I could see the rush in her eyes lol..
Said to her "now will you stop yelling at me when I do it?" _________________

Red GTX with a black top and a black Vette? Slim Timmerman on Grange Hall? It might be one thing to race the GTX but if he still had the R/T you'd probably get smoked with any of your vehicles. I think the car he had before the R/T was a '66 442. I grew up on Shadeland, the street 2 doors down from his house. Real nice guy! Have him teach you how to wax a car. He always waxed the R/T in the same direction so there would not be swirl marks in the black paint. He put chrome slots on the car when it was new and had to replace them because he waxed the crhome off. I haven't looked at the GTX that close. Did he put 383 badges on it like he did the R/T?

Yea thats the guy alright. He even has a late 90's buick LaSaber with duals
There is NO way I could take that GTX. If I am not mistaken, he has a "6-Pack" under the hood plus an unbelievable amount of money tied up in that engine. Its the real deal though. This is not a clone and man the paint sure shines. I use to work in a detailing shop and heard about the waxing technique you mentioned. Your right, it definitly does make a difference.
The GTX is Red with a black vinal top with a set of beautiful after market rims. _________________ 77 Monte Carlo 82K Swivel Buckets/Console
